Gertrude Stein was an arts patron in Paris from 1903 to 1946. Cond : Paper wrapper is brown with white lettering. Cover image is of a bronze of Ms, Stein by Davidson. Volume tight, bright, square, and clean. No marks, no tears. Remainder mark (punched hole) in front cover. Negligible effect. Exceleent reading copy. Quote (p. 142) : " And fathers come up and fathers go down. That is natural enough when nobody has had fathers they begin to long for them and then when everybody has had fathers they begin to long to do without them, Sometimes barons and dukes are fathers and ._._._. ." Very good indeed. Dj once cream is rather browned everywhere but particularly on the spine. The extremities are all a little rubbed and worn, otherwise very good. Acquired from Maud Lloyd, an admired leading dancer with Ballet Rambert in the 1930s. Later she wrote, with her husband, Nigel Gosling, influential dance books and reviews under the pseudonym, 'Alexander Bland'. When Rudolph Nureyev defected in 1961, they became his surrogate parents.
