Leather bound. Etat : Very good. First edition. 391pp. plus Index. Octavo [20.5 cm] Full brown leather with a hubbed spine, and a red leather spine label. The rear board is cosmetically cracked along the joint. There is a contemporary owner's name at the head of the front free endsheet. With 16 of the 18 plates. The plates at p. 200 and p. 204 are no longer present (Table 14 and Table 15). The two fold-out illustrations at p. 100 are torn (with tape and a bit of loss to Table 3). The fold-out table at p. 100 has also been taped where torn. This essay is considered to be man-midwife John Burton's most significant contribution towards medicine. Burton, of York, was a prominent Tory, and was later satirized as "Doctor Slop" in Laurence Sterne's Tristram Shandy.
