In Portuguese Sixth Edition Brazil enjoyed a remarkable period of rapid progress and international importance under Emperors Pedro I and, Especially, Pedro II, who reigned from 1831 to 1891. The government enacted a law in 1823 calling for the gradual replacement of the English Ordinations with codes informed by the Enlightenment ideas of the eighteenth century and the work of Jeremy Bentham. The code was enacted in 1850 and its first two editions were published in 1858 and 1869. In a quarter morocco binding. Externally some rubbing to the boards and spine with bumping to the corners. Front hinge tender with front endpaper, blank and half title loosening. Internally firmly bound. Pages are clean throughout with age toning due to the type of paper used. Good. book.
