Etat : Good. 1962. Reprinted. 351 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth. French text. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning.

Boards are rather scuffed and edge-worn, with one or two superficial scorings. Spine is cocked and very worn and nicked at ends. Spine edges are quite worn, with some damage to fabric on left side of spine, near spine head. Leading edges are very worn and also have fabric damage. Page block is grubby and sunned. Blue ink stain on page 57. Front hinge is cracked and binding is rather loose throughout most of book. Text is clear. AF. Ex-Library.

Michel Eyquem, Sieur de Montaigne, also known as the Lord of Montaigne, was one of the most significant philosophers of the French Renaissance. He is known for popularizing the essay as a literary genre. His work is noted for its merging of casual anecdotes and autobiography with intellectual insight.
