Etat : Extremely Rare. Not edited by W.B. Yeats. Dickinson wrote this on the evening of the 31st January, 1907 while The Playboy of The Western World was still running. The cover and sketches of Synge and Yeats were by K.C. Orpen, the following two drawings by William Orpen and the last by Dickinson himself. Original pictorial wrps. p.p. 12 quarto. Extremely rare. This work is a humorous description of the unruly reception of The Playboy at the Abbey Theatre in January 1907 where the use of the word Shift precipitated a riot much to the disgust of Yeats and Synge. The cover design is a pastiche of that on The Arrow, an occasional publication of the Abbey Theatre edited by Yeats. The cover depicts Mrs Grundy restraining Synge. This publication is rare. I have never seen a copy in 40 years collecting.
