Quatrième de couverture :

Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young business executive and she is an artist on the brink of an exciting career. But as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are suddenly ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined when, while visiting Roy’s parents in their small Louisiana town, Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years in prison for a crime Celestial knows he didn’t commit.

Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend and Roy’s best man at her wedding. As Roy’s time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. When, after five years, Roy’s conviction is suddenly overturned and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together, Celestial is faced with a soul-wrenching decision: whether to let go or to try to rebuild a marriage that has lost its underpinnings.

This stirring love story is an insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward—with hope and pain—into the future.

Présentation de l'éditeur :
Oprah's Book Club Selection 2018. Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive, and she is an artist on the brink of an exciting career. But as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn't commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy's time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. After five years, Roy's conviction is suddenly overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together. This stirring love story is a profoundly insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look deep into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward--with hope and pain--into the future.

Description du livre Hardcover. Etat : New. Etat de la jaquette : New. 1st Edition. Algonquin Books, 2018, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Hard Cover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Stated "First Edition", first printing with a full number line starting at "1". 9-1/4" tall, 308 numbered pages includes "Acknowledgements"; one-piece lightly textured black binding, gilt lettering on spine only; front board has the author's initials blind stamped side-by-side 3" from the top edge; plain ivory end pages; fore edge is trimmed. Book is square, hinges tight, corners not bumped, no dings on edges, upper rear corner at head of spine lightly bumped, interior clean and unmarked; no page corners folded or damaged; upper front gutter has 1-5/8" break in the binding (it does not weaken the seam, it just looks unpleasant), clearly a manufacturing defect; no remainder mark, not book club edition nor ex-library; no staining or discoloration. Jacket is pristine: it is clean; no tears, folds, creases or fading; no bumps on spine or edges; very slight bump at head of spine; publisher's original price of "$26.95 U.S." listed on the upper right corner of front flap; 1-1/2" circular black-on-white "AUTOGRAPHED / EDITION" sticker near the upper right corner of the front panel; 2-1/4" x 1" black-on-white store sticker (author, title, price, ISBN number & bar code) on lower edge of the rear panel; (there is no "OPRAH'S BOOK CLUB" sticker). Condition of book and jacket consistent with being brand new and not read. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no previous owner markings or inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Rather legibly signed by the author in medium black felt pen near the bottom of title page beneath her printed name. According to the author, the true first edition had a first printing of 15,000 copies, whereas the first printing of the Oprah edition is at least 100,000 copies. Given the immediate popularity of this book, and the small size of the first printing, true first editions are likely to become quite rare. Signed by Author(s). N° de réf. du vendeur BMR-2022-5-22-5
